2 posts before, I reblogged a post regarding a man named Josh Hines who is trying to raise money in order to adopt a stray dog he found in Cairo while on vacation.
This story definitely got my attention and I emailed Josh right away to find out if there were any updates regarding this dog and if there was anything else I could do to help.
Josh emailed me right away and even sent me updated pictures of this dog he named Sphyncus Nagat. Here is what he told me:
She was a stray that was living outside of my hotel in Cairo and I completely fell in love with her. She had a bad leg (I later learned it’s from being hit by a car) and I saw kids tormenting her and hitting her so I intervened the best I could. I ended up feeding her and giving her water and after some time she seemed to trust me, enough to let me pet her at least. I contacted ESMA, which is the only group in Egypt I was able to find over the internet, and after giving them the hotel address and pictures and video they were able to find her and take her to their shelter.
I’ve been in regular contact with a woman named Mona Khalil from ESMA and she’s been keeping me updated and sending me pictures. The dog is getting her vaccinations and doing well. They told me there’s nothing that can be done for the leg because it’s an old fracture that healed on it’s own but they think she has some head trauma and it effects her balance now. I’m hoping to be able to get her on some kind of medication or at least get a cat scan for her if I have the money one she gets to the US.
As of right now the big slow up is with the airlines and finding a flight parent for her. We had a woman who volunteered to bring her over with her on her flight at the end of June and she was flying to Evansville, Indiana, which is about 2 hours from me in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but she’s on a Delta flight and, like many other airlines apparently, Delta has an embargo on flying animals in the cargo hold between May 15th and September 15th due to heat. She’s too big to fly in the cabin so it eliminates that. So now we’re trying to find somebody flying Egypt Air, KLM, Lufthansa, or Air France because I’m told those airlines are able to fly an animal in the cargo during the summer months. The only problem with those airlines is that they only fly to certain big cities like DC and New York. But I’m telling Mona not to rule them out because my brother lives in DC so I could make it work. I’m not against going back over myself but I don’t have the money to do it right now. I’m also not against them sending her over by herself but that worries me and is a lot more expensive for some reason.
So right now we’re just going through the booster shots and looking for answers and waiting. I work at a tv station and they did a news story on it which helped get some interest and a friend of mine writes a blog for the Louisville Courier Journal and he did a story on it which really helped. Posting the article on your blog helps me tremendously, just gaining some interest is big. I’m not sure which article you reposted but here are some links to maybe give you a better understanding of the whole thing:

I’ve received various amounts of support and criticism for this whole thing, mostly support. I’ve never done anything like this so it’s all new to me and the whole process is a bit overwhelming. If you know anybody that would potentially know anything about this whole process I need any info I can get. ESMA has a lot on their plate with all of their animals so I know it’s hard for them to work out the whole process on their own with this one particular dog so we’re looking for any solutions or knowledge on the subject. The important thing is that she’s off the streets and being cared for now.
And yes, I do plan on changing this dog’s life. She will be spoiled beyond belief :)
after this email, I asked if I could see some updated pictures and if I could post them here — so that is what I am doing now to get the word out. I am just so happy that this dog is now off the streets and being well taken care of. Next step is to get her here so she can start her new life with Josh.
So please, donate as much or as little as you can. It would make a world of a difference to this one lil pup :)
